Hewitson Old Garden Vineyard Mourvèdre 2013
Medium red with a purple hue.
Lifted forest berry, black cherry and orange peel.
Palate shows dense, lush blackberries and prune with hints of cigar box, violets and black pepper. Fine, seamlessly integrated tannins.
18 months new French oak barriques.
The dark, intense smokey notes of Mourvèdre are fabulous with duck, slow-cooked shoulder of lamb, Mexican food which include mole sauce, and eggplant dishes such as baba ganoush or spicy aubergine salad.
READINESS FOR DRINKING
Although approachable now for its lushness, it should develop more complexity until 2030, so try to stash a bottle or two away.
